Faith, Family, & Friends

Much to the delight of some and the dismay of others, school is back in session. For many it seems like it has been a long summer and for others it seems a short one. It reminds us of the passing of time so swiftly and what we are going to do for JESUS we need to be about it fervently and faithfully. We pray for our teachers, pupils and all others involved in education for our children.
Our crusade is just around the corner and I trust you have made preparations to be here every night. We must commit these efforts to GOD in prayer before, during, and after the crusade. When all is said and done, only what GOD does will last.  We will be sharing more about this week by week.
It is a great time to invite folks to Bible Fellowship and to Worship. There are many out there who would come but no one is inviting them. I pray that our inreach and outreach will be done in such a way that we will minister to the hurts of those around us and share the Good News of JESUS CHRIST.
I look forward to the days ahead with great anticipation.

QUALIFICATIONS OF A DEACON

The office of a deacon is an office for service to Christ through the church. Any other concept does injustice to the New Testament record (Acts 6 and I Timothy 3). It is not a position or an office to give a person in order to honor him. A member, in order to qualify for the office of active deacon in Rock Springs:

 1.        Shall be Spirit-filled.
 2.        Shall be elected by the church.
 3.               Shall set a high standard of separated Christian living. Grave, not double-tongued, not given to wine, not greedy of filthy lucre . . . Their wives must be: grave, not slanderous, sober, faithful in all things, (I Timothy 4:12).
 4.        Shall be active and faithful to all major areas of church life.
 5.        Shall not be a gossiper (I Timothy 3:8).
 6.        Shall believe in and practice "storehouse tithing" (Malachi 3:10).
 7.               Shall have compassion for the lost, and seek in his living and speech to win them to the Lord
Jesus Christ.
 8.        Shall be the husband of one wife (I Timothy 3:11,12).
 9.        Must believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God, without error, the source of authority for
precept and practice (II Tim. 3:16).
10.      Must believe in salvation by grace, through faith, on the basis of the substitutionary death of
Christ for sinners (John 3:16).
11.      Must rule his children and his own house well.
12.      Shall do all in his power to create and preserve harmony in the church.
13.      Shall be able to keep, and have the reputation for keeping, in confidence those things which should not be discussed with others.
14.      Shall recognize the God-given spiritual leadership that is incumbent upon the office of a pastor
and seek to serve under that leadership.
15.      He shall guard his influence at all times.

SPECIAL NOTE: A man should be a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church for at least one year prior to the time of the election to the deacon body.
